Ontario Tours

Presqu'ile Provincial Park

Presqu’ile Provincial Park, well known for its shorebird and land bird migration, can be an exciting place at this time of year. A combination of mudflats, marshes, Lake Ontario and woodland trails provide a great variety of habitats and the opportunity for some fun birding! Niagara River Region Tour

Test your ID skills on this Niagara/Niagara-on-the-Lake trip. Our focus will be on waterfowl, gulls, and land birds such as the Red-bellied Woodpecker, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Wren and Northern Mockingbird. Since my first visit in December 1973, Niagara has become one of my favourite late fall birding areas in Ontario. Highlights over the years have included Rufous Hummingbird, Franklin’s Gull, Sabine’s Gull, Black-headed Gull and California Gull to name a few.

Weather permitting, we will make a brief stop at Presqu’ile Provincial Park.

Point Pelee National Park

In 2011, I will be offering two birding tours to Point Pelee National Park. Point Pelee and the surrounding area is perhaps the most exciting place to be during spring migration and enjoys legendary status among birders. Pelee is a hot spot where unusal species are the rule and not the exception. This mecca for birds is best known for its unpredictability. My mantra is that anything is possible, at anytime and in any place at Point Pelee at this time of year. Don't miss it!

The itinerary for the Point Pelee National Park tours will be flexible, allowing us the freedom to “bird where the birds are,” visiting areas such as Rondeau Provincial Park, St. Clair National Wildlife Area and Hillman Marsh Conservation Area. The first tour will be held from May 4 to 9 (5 nights/6 days) and the second tour May 11 to 16. The trips will cover the best migration periods in the Pelee area during the month of May. We will be based out of Leamington and that will give us easy access to many of the prime birding locations.
